Being as Job

Image
What have I done wrong? What awful sin(s) have I committed to experience these difficulties? A few days ago I heard teachings and revisited the story of Job in the Old Testament. Let me just say that it has opened my eyes to a different meaning of the story. My family experienced some degree of financial crisis as of late. Me and my wife tried everything but it seemed we're never getting out of the whole.  We did extra jobs, sidekick, selling our extra things, cutting back on expenses.. but it just didn't work.  As we've exhausted all of our options, the only thing left was to turn to family.  Though we did receive some help, we were faced with surprisingly assumptious questions, though well intended, I think. Questions like; "What have you done to get to this point?" "What happened with you?" These questions were in the assumptions that I or we've sinned and our financial struggle was the consequence of our wro...

Hard Decisions

Image
If it'll come down to it. Will I choose to save my wife or my unborn daughter? We were so ready to welcome our second child to this world. Our oldest was going to be two years old and this might sound weird but we missed the new born vibes already. We had about three false alarm with our second daughter. Each time we rushed to the hospital smiling in our hearts thinking that this will be the day when we'll meet our new addition. But each time we were sent back home...Oops haha. However, 5th of May rolled around and it was time. We went to the hospital that night and my daughter was born the next morning. This article though is about that one very scary moment when I contemplated having to choose between my wife or my unborn daughter. There were some complications with my wife's medications which sent her blood levels very low, heart beat was slowing down, her pupil were disappearing, skin pale and the nurse yelling, "keep her awake!" at me. ...

Do Not Step Off the Building!

Image
It might be wise not to step off the building. Earlier today I heard a remark that made me think deep and I hope it'll benefit us all. Why do Mormons have so many rules. The question caught me by surprise and it rang in my mind even after I got home. I thought of how things are done in this world. How I can tell you, probably down to the exact minute of when the sun will rise in any country for example. How would I know this? I know this because it can be figured out. The earth tilts back and forth as it orbits around the sun in a very particular way. God's laws are always exact. If the earth rotates towards the sun by a few miles, we would burn, if it would rotate backwards a few miles, we would freeze. Do you think this is a coincidence? No Take the law of gravity for example. No matter the size or weight. If you lift an object up and let it go, it will for sure fall. No matter how long it will take, it is destined for the ground. Go...

Didnʻt You Get the Letter?

Image
I was so bad my coach even asked me if I didn't get the letter? I have heard so many spiritual counsels and guidance this weekend of which I am so grateful for. I have felt that I need to do better in some things and I need to rid my life of others. All in all, one memory came to mind and I think it is appropriate to share with you all: "It doesn't matter when and how you finish. In life, what matters is that you do finish the race." It was the first year I joined my high school track and field team. I was in eleventh grade or Form 5 for those of you outside of the U.S. I was so bad and slow but I really wanted to join the team so I kept going to the practices. There were morning practices which started at 6am and there were after school practices that ended around 7pm. One morning practice the coach called me while we were on a break and asked, "You didn't get the letter?" I said, "What letter?" He said, "T...

Nurture it Strongly

Image
Nurture it with care! Sometimes that doesn't mean to be gentle with it. I am no expert in marriage. I definitely have not earned the right to give any advice regarding it. However, I can only speak from experience. Before we got married we went to a marriage class. It was amazing. The teacher was funny and the learning seemed to grow everyday. All of the advices we got were so heartfelt: "Treat your spouse with respect." "Be kind to one another..." only to name a few. It seemed that we were now ready for our new reality. What they forgot to tell us was that we would argue and have great disagreements. They said decisions are better made with more than one head. They just forgot to tell us how hard it would be sometimes to come to an agreement! Sometimes we as couples tend to cloud our companionship by holding back our true feelings to make sure the other doesn't feel unhappy or sad. From my experience, this is a BIG MIS...

Walk Without Shame

Image
Be your majestic self! We were not always members of the Church. We are converts who grew up as members of the Wesleyan Church. Both sides of my parent's families were strong members of the Wesleyan Church. Some of my uncles, aunts, and even cousins held high offices in their various branches. My father especially had many close friends within our communities and from church as well. I remember days when the LDS missionaries would turn into our home and my father would order us to go to our rooms and no one is to answer the door. I remember peeking from one of the rooms outside to the Elders walking up and knocking on our door. None of us kids would make a sound. The Elders would keep on knocking and when on one would answer they would turn and continue on their way. It wasn't until my father came to American to work in hopes of getting more money to support our struggling little family that he met a good family. They were members of the LDS faith. Lo...

It is Best to Live Within Your Means

Image
Above all, it is best to live within your means. Last week I mentioned that there is more to the story and we would continue it sometime. Today, is that sometime hahaha... You should know that this would be similar to last week's post. Because believe it or not, it sort of happened twice. It's set now that we are getting married. The date has been planned and our apartment is secured. It was fast Sunday and my prayers were more towards our honeymoon and asking to be prepared for this new chapter of my life.  Like every other Sunday me and my fiance would go together to the cafeteria for dinner. This Sunday was quite odd. Usually, there would be a lot of students because ice-cream is always served on fast Sunday. For some reason, there was hardly anyone in there.  We got our food and we went to that same spot that I mentioned on last week's blog post.  The surrounding was very similar. We were secluded and there was no one near us. As we ...
